Our Mission

It is the purpose of the Seneca Lake Pure Waters Association to promote the understanding, preservation and improvement of the water quality, natural habitat and general environmental conditions of Seneca Lake and its watershed by sponsoring or undertaking scientific research, by collecting, preserving, publishing and disseminating information concerning Seneca lake and its watershed and by encouraging and supporting the enforcement of laws and regulations and patterns of development and technology aimed at preserving and enhancing the water quality of the lake.

June 17, 2010: Letter to Ms. Lisa Porter of the NYS DEC regarding the Draft Environmental Impact Statement submitted by Scepter New York Inc. for an aluminum recycling salt cake monofil in the Town of Varick, Seneca County.  

June 8, 2010: 
Letter to Angela Nugent of the EPA  
input to the meeting of the Chartered SAB Review on
June 16, 2010. The comments relate to the review of Hydraulic Fracturing Research
Plan.

March 29, 2010:  Letter to Gov. David A. Paterson, NYS DEC Commissioner Grannis, our Federal and State Representatives and EPA Administrators giving our support to the EPA's new  Hydraulic Fracturing study and urging Gov. Paterson to continue the moratorium on drilling in the Marcellus shale until this new EPA study is completed and its impact on NYS has be accessed

March 1, 2010
: Letter to Seneca County Board of Supervisors and Seneca County Board of Supervisors Government Operation Committee regarding support for the formation of a Standing Committee for environmental issues.

Feb. 26, 2010: Letter to 29th Congressional District Candidate Tom Reed regarding his position protecting the water quality of our watershed from possible contamination due to drilling for natural gas in the Marcellus Shale.

Feb. 4, 2010: Letter to Gov. David A. Patterson, NYS DEC Commissioner Pete Grannis, our Federal and State representatives and EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson regarding our submission on Minimum Requirements necessary to achieve “environmentally and fiscally responsible drilling for natural gas”, as SLPWA stated in its comments to the NYS DEC on the DRAFT Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement on the Oil, Gas and Solution Mining Regulatory Program (dSGEIS) issued, September 30, 2009.

Feb. 2, 2010: Letter to the Town of Varick Council and Town of Varick Planning Board regarding the proposal of Scepter Inc. to use a deep-well injection method to dispose of the leachate from their proposed monofill.

Feb. 2, 2010: Letter to Representative Eric Massa, Town of Varick, and Watershed Schyler County representatives in regards to the Proposed injection well in the Town of Pulteney urging immediate, active support of municipal and county officials as well as community organizations for more stringent regulations and decision-making to protect our communities and their environments from the hazards of the natural gas drilling processes proposed for the Marcellus Shale play.

Jan. 13, 2010: Letter to Supervisor Bill Weber, Supervisor Town of Pulteney, on the application of Chesapeake Energy to dispose of waste water (from hydraulic fracturing of natural gas wells) in a deep well on the Bergstresser property in the Town of Pulteney.
